About Sonia

Sonia Sharma-Patry

Ayurvedic Practitioner

Born in India, I immigrated to Canada with my family when I was 12 years old.  Introduced to yogis and swamis at a young age, I developed a deep interest in Yoga, Ayurvedic sciences and eastern philosophy to help me navigate through different challenges in my life. I have been a lifelong student of Ayurveda and Yoga.

Indian Spiritual Roots

My parents held on to their Indian spiritual roots tightly, and even as a teenager growing up in Toronto I was immersed in the principles of Ayurveda and Yoga. At the root of this ingrained ancient philosophy is the belief that we have an innate power to heal ourselves through a healthy mind, emotions, diet, exercise, and lifestyle.

My Wellness Journey

Before embarking on my wellness journey full-time, I served in the Canadian public service for over 30 years. While working full-time in the public service, I graduated from my 200-hour yoga training from The Kundalini Research Institute (KRI) in 2015. Soon after my training, I began sharing what I learnt with my colleagues.

By 2016, I had become a passionate advocate for promoting well-being in the workplace. I proactively worked with my colleagues to help them return to “balance” during their busy workday, and to inspire them towards a healthier lifestyle. Over time, I earned the trust and confidence of my peers and senior management, and conducted over 50 large group (“town hall”) presentations, weekly wellness sessions, and various types of wellness challenges on diverse well-being topics. I became known as a wellness champion in the workplace.

Outside the workplace, I have taught weekly yoga, meditation, Ayurveda workshops and weekend trainings on “Principles of Ayurveda” at PranaShanti Yoga Center since 2016. One opportunity led to another, and I started co-leading weekend wellness retreats for women who were searching for some down-time while rejuvenating their mind, body, and soul.

A Unique Wellness Protocol

My upbringing and my own health issues in life also prompted me to seek formal training as an Ayurveda Chef.  They say that the best way to embody Ayurveda is to heal yourself first! Well, that’s exactly where this training took me – it led me to discover a unique wellness protocol for myself. Then in 2019, I began sharing my knowledge by coaching clients on well-being.

My studies have introduced me to some amazing teachers and experts, such as Dr. Suhas Kshirsagar, Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. David Frawley, Myra Lewin and many more experts in the field of well-being and Vedic studies. I continue learning more each day – I love being a student of life, while sharing my knowledge openly with others!!
